Privacy notice

Senna lets you give honest feedback to an organisation, like your employer, your landlord or a place you've visited, without saying who you are. This page explains in plain English what happens to what you write.

The short version

  • We don't ask who you are, and we don't save your name, email, IP address or device with your message.
  • The organisation gets a combined report written by AI. It can't browse individual messages.
  • One message per person per day, tracked by a small cookie that holds only the date.
  • In an emergency, call SAPS on 10111, or 112 from a mobile.

What we store

When you send feedback we save three things: the type of feedback you chose, your message, and the date (not the time). That's all.

We never ask for your name or email address, and we don't save your IP address, device details or location with your feedback. Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs to keep the service running and secure. Those logs are kept separately from messages and aren't used to identify anyone.

What the organisation sees

The organisation can't browse individual messages in Senna. When they want a report, Senna's AI reads all the messages for a period and writes one combined report, sorted by topic. It paraphrases rather than quotes, and it's instructed to remove or generalise details that could identify the writer, such as names, stall or unit numbers, or exact shifts.

The fewer people who take part, the easier it can be to guess who said what. That's why we encourage organisations to wait for several responses before they generate a report.

Please keep yourself out of it

Anything you write in the message itself is processed as written. Please don't include your own name, or details that point to you (like your exact role, shift or stall number). If you mention other people, describe what happened rather than naming them. Reports refer to people by role, not by name.

The daily limit

To keep things fair, each person can send one message per day. We do this with a small cookie on your device that holds only today's date. It isn't linked to your message, it resets at midnight (South African time) and it expires on its own. Clearing your cookies removes it.

How your message is processed

Messages are stored in an encrypted cloud database. When a report is generated, the messages for that period are sent to an AI service only to produce that report. Our database and AI providers may be based outside South Africa. Organisations can ask us to delete their data at any time.

Your rights under POPIA

We handle information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Because we deliberately don't know who wrote what, we can't look up “your” messages by name. If you've sent something you regret, such as a detail that identifies you, email us with the organisation's name, the date and a few words from the message, and we'll remove it. If a report has already been made, it may still include a summary of it.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled personal information, you can complain to the Information Regulator.

Urgent situations

Because Senna is anonymous, nobody can reply to you or act on a message straight away. If you or someone else is in danger, call the police (SAPS) on 10111, or 112 from a mobile phone. You can also speak to someone you trust at the organisation directly.
